A former Benedictine abbey, it belonged to the diocese of Langres until 1731, then to the diocese of Dijon until 1791, when it and its possessions were sold as national property. Much of it was destroyed in 1805, but many buildings remain, such as these two 15th-century towers, a wash house, the convent buildings, and the remains of the 12th-century abbey church. A very pleasant climb through the woods, and very accessible to beginners (3% average gradient). It can sometimes be foggy, so bring lights to ensure you are clearly visible to vehicles.

In place of an old gate in the 12th-century city wall, the architect Jean-Philippe Maret had this monument built between 1786 and 1788 in homage to the Prince of Condé, governor of Burgundy. The building was then named Porte Condé. The monument was connected by walls to the ramparts that still existed, and its gate was closed by a gate, traces of which can still be seen. During the Revolution in 1791, the gate was named the Arc de la Liberté; in the 19th century, it became Porte Guillaume, in reference to Guillaume de Volpiano, abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Bénigne.

Not only rivers as natural watercourses run through the country, but also many - artificially created - canals. In times long past, they were an essential part of the transport infrastructure, before rail and road took over this role. But even if this canal flowing through Burgundy is nowhere near as famous as the almost legendary "Canal du Midi" (which has at least been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the "Canal de Bourgogne" here near Dijon offers very nice opportunities for exercise in nature.

The name Porte Guillaume is a tribute to Guillaume de Volpiano, abbot of the Abbey of Saint Bénigne, who participated in the construction of the abbey in the 11th century, which was later converted into a cathedral and is located not far away.

This triumphal gate, sometimes called the "Triumphal Arch of Dijon", was built in the 18th century. However, its origins are much older, as at that time the city was surrounded by a rampart on which the monument was built. From these remains, the current city gate was rebuilt in the 18th century. It was named Porte Guillaume after William of Volpiano, abbot of the Abbey of Saint Bénigne. In the 11th century, he contributed to the construction of the latter, which was later converted into a cathedral and is located nearby. Very nice downhill too. You can do nice bursts of speed, because it's relatively steep and not too twisty.
