1월 21, 2025, Église Saint-Rémy de Dieppe
The first stone of the Saint-Rémy church was laid by Thomas Bouchard, alderman and treasurer of the city, in 1522. However, its construction lasted more than 100 years and was completed in 1643. The work was interrupted for several decades because of the conflicts of the Wars of Religion opposing Catholicism and Protestantism. The Saint-Rémy church illustrates the establishment of the Counter-Reformation movement in Dieppe. Indeed, faced with the influence of Protestantism which aimed for a sobriety of worship, the Catholic power aimed to attract and control the faithful. In the 17th century, a baroque altarpiece was built which helped to establish a sensitive relationship with the sacred, visible in the chapel of the Virgin. In the 18th century, the Parisot organ exalts the prayers of the parishioners. Listed as a Historic Monument in 1910, the Saint-Rémy church underwent a series of restorations from the 19th century. Since 1990, several restoration campaigns have been undertaken. In 2022, the black ambulatory was inaugurated after more than a year of work. The interior and exterior have been reconstructed, including gargoyles sculpted by Morgan Roulland.

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Notre-Dame church is a very interesting building that expresses some very characteristic features of the architecture of the Norman School, particularly in the Gothic choir attributed to the 13th century. The bell tower-porch has a late 15th century portal with an ogival arcade that frames an openwork tympanum. Above the portal is built a flamboyant style rose window. The nave, flanked by two side aisles, was built in the 13th century, but was extensively remodeled in the 16th and 17th centuries. It has an interior elevation on 3 levels. All that remains of the primitive Romanesque church is the base of the old lantern tower. Visible only from the outside, it is located at the crossing of the transept. The church has some singularities: -The sepulchre dating from the 15th century, representing Christ stretched out on a shroud, Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea, Saint John the Evangelist, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene. -The stained glass windows are attributed for the most part to Édouard Didron, a great Parisian master glassmaker.

old church that seems to be built from very weathered marlstone. High time for renovation but very beautiful.

[Saint-Remy Church] As early as the 13th century, there is a Saint-Rémy church in Dieppe, but it was 100 meters south-east of the castle and today only the tower (Saint-Rémy tower) remains, now integrated on the castle walls. The construction of the new Saint-Rémy church, in this new location, began in the 16th century, but because of the Wars of Religion, it would not end until the 17th century. At least without its north tower which will never be built. https://www.seevisit.fr/dieppe-eglise-saint-remy

4월 24, 2023, Château d'Arques-la-Bataille
Located on a rocky spur which dominates the valley, this fortified castle was probably built between 1040 and 1045 by the uncle of William the Conqueror. It was an important site during the Hundred Years' War. In 1589, Henry IV won a decisive victory at the foot of the ramparts against the Catholic league opposing his accession to the throne. From this episode comes the affixing of “The Battle” to the town of Arques. The castle is now in ruins and the interior can no longer be visited for security reasons, but you can go around it via the counterscarp path cut into the rock. To do this, unless you are an ace mountain biker, you will have to leave the bike and go around on foot. But it's worth it, because this short walk with some ups and downs offers wide panoramas of the surroundings and gives the full extent of the site. It is entirely possible to reach the entrance to the castle by road bike. To do this, you will have to climb a small tarmac path, but with a very steep slope.

4월 23, 2023, Bourg de Neufchâtel en Bray
The town of Neufchâtel is one of the martyr towns that suffered significant destruction during the 2nd World War. However, the city center which is a little away from the Avenue Verte deserves a little detour. Around the church, whose foundations date back to the 12th century, there are still a few old houses, the oldest of which, dating from the 16th century, now houses a museum.

4월 23, 2023, Château de Mesnières-en-Bray
Magnificent castle dating from the Renaissance whose plans were inspired by the castle of Chaumont s/Loire. Sequestered during the Revolution, the estate was transformed into a prison during the time of the Terror and housed up to 150 prisoners. It was returned to its owner in 1799. The site is now owned by the St Joseph Institute and the outbuildings house a private establishment for general and technical education, with in particular courses dedicated to horticulture and the hotel and catering industry. The castle offers accommodation services and room rentals for events. It is open to individual visits during the July-August period from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., except on reception days for weddings or other events. The gardens surrounding the castle were designed by Le Nôtre. A sign on the Avenue Verte also specifies that the village of Mesnières, entirely organized around the castle, deserves a little detour. It's true ...
