This castle was built in the 14th century. At that time, the towers were twice as high. It was inhabited by soldiers during the period when Burgundy belonged to England and there was a battle against the French. The castle is currently being renovated. The knights' hall is almost finished

This year this walk was very muddy due to the large amount of rain the last 2 days. We didn't stay dry during our walk either, but it remained a beautiful walk

The church of Saint Martin sur Nohain dates from the end of the 12th – beginning of the 13th century. The village was called Saint-Martin-du-Tronsec. But at the end of the 19th century, the capital of the commune was transferred to the hamlet of Nohain, for its more central position. The church was dismantled and rebuilt in its current location.

Le Nohain is a river that flows through many villages in this area and eventually flows into the Loire near the center of Cosne sur Loire.

The Château de Saint-Vérain and the village were once one. The proximity of the Porte de Cosne suggests that Saint-Vérain was a castral village.

The Porte de Cosne was formerly known as the Porte du Vieux Château de Cosne. In the 9th century the village was surrounded by a wooded fortification until in the 12th century stone fortifications began to be built. Looking closely, one can see that the roof of the gate is exceptionally steep. The tower that originally existed was to be over 20 meters high and closed with heavy gates and a portcullis to prevent enemy attacks.
