The first trotting race was organized in the Prairie on August 26, 1837, by the Caen Agricultural and Commercial Society. On February 13, 1839, the city decided to create a permanent racecourse. In August of the following year, it was agreed to build stands to accommodate spectators. In 1845, the earth from the digging of the Caen-Sea Canal was dumped into the Prairie to build the racecourse. On October 21, 1864, the Society for the Encouragement of the Improvement of the French Half-Blood Horse was created in Caen to regulate the trotting racing code for the whole of France. Near Cabourg, in the Calvados, lies Beuvron-en-Auge, an authentic village with many half-timbered houses that have been carefully restored. Very touristy, and a nice start to possibly go cycling or driving the cider route (about 40km).

Cabourg Beach, nicknamed “The beach of romantics”, is a magnificent 4 km beach of fine sand, ideal for enjoying the benefits of the seaside. It is bordered by an entirely pedestrian promenade which offers a panorama of the Coast de Nacre, the Côte Fleurie and Le Havre. All in a Belle Époque charm with the numerous villas from the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century on the seafront. Nicknamed “The romantic beach”, Cabourg beach.
