The Kofel was already revered by the Celts. The grotto trail below the Kofel is full of stone carvings, small caves with statues of Mary, and angel figures everywhere – in the moss, in the branches, in the rock crevices. A magical place.

Lake Königssee is a mountain lake located mostly within the Berchtesgaden National Park. Nestled between the steep slopes of the Watzmann and Hagen Mountains, the elongated lake, together with the smaller Obersee to the southeast—around which the Steinernes Meer (Sea of Stones) forms the head of the valley—has a fjord-like character. From the Königssee parking area, a path leads past picturesque boathouses into the national park. Passing the former Café Malerwinkl, the walk continues to the so-called Malerwinkel (Painter's Corner). This hike is also very popular as a winter walk, when the path to Malerwinkl is cleared and gritted.

The entrance fee is currently €4 per person, which is quite a challenge. If you want to go through the cool gorge on the way back, you need two tokens. From the path above, you can't see down. It's definitely worth it at least once.
