The beautiful, extensive beach of Riva-Bella is the closest to Caen and is loved by families who come to enjoy the sun and sea at the first rays of the sun. The seaside resort is recognized as "Station Voile" and, in addition to sailing, water and beach sports, also offers a go-kart track, riding school, flying club and mini golf. All the hustle and bustle (and shops) of the seaside town are concentrated on the avenue de la Mer, which opens onto the beach opposite the casino.

Hermanville: The British on Sword beach “Lion remembers – honors and recognizes the Allied soldiers and civilians who gave their lives for our freedom.” Operation Overlord also unfolded on "Sword" just as it did elsewhere. During the night, the German coastal defenses were bombed by the Allied air force. The following morning the Allied navy continued these bombardments with their artillery. The units later came ashore under German fire and penetrated the defense with tanks, followed by attacks by the 3rd Infantry Division led by Major General Rennie. The first units from the South Lancashires liberated the village of Hermanville at 10am, while the Suffolk Regiment liberated the neighboring village of Colleville. The British could not reach Caen quickly, as previously planned. The long battle for the city began that same day at 11:30 in the morning. The Allies needed calm sea water to land men and equipment. For this purpose, a number of ships were sunk about 2.5 km off the coast of Hermanville under the name "Gooseberries" (code name). 6 merchant ships and 3 old warships were sacrificed for this. https://www.tracesofwar.nl/sights/2281/Monument-Operation-Overlord.htm

Kieffer Commando's Monument: In a beautiful park on the coast lies this monument of the No.4 Commando's of Lt.Kieffer, who came ashore in the early morning of June 6, 1944 to neutralize the batteries of Ouistreham. The monument is located on a German 644 bunker that was part of Stützpunkt 08 HKB Riva Bella. The Stützpunkt with 6 pieces of 155mm guns served to defend the entrance of the river Orne and the canal. The Regelbau 644 is a "Stand mit 6-Schartenturm in A". A small recreational boat harbor sits at the mouth of the canal that goes inland to Caen. Great overlook at the entrance to the Ferry terminals.
