At No. 8, rue François OUSTRIN, the 18th-century main façade bears witness to the successive renovations of a much older residence, as is the case with many Pézenas residences. Stepping inside, you'll discover a vestibule with four ribbed vaulted bays resting on a central column, providing access to the courtyard. The right-angled staircase leads to a gallery on the first floor, covered with ribbed vaults resting on prismatic columns. The construction of this mansion is attributed to Etienne de Montagut, Lord of Lacoste, between 1509 and 1518. The Prince of Conti received Louis XIV here on April 6, 1660. The staircase and its Gothic vaults constitute one of the most beautiful monuments to see in Pézenas.

There are almost no tourist trap shops in the old town center, but there are art galleries and local craft shops of all kinds. This place is very typical and has retained its soul thanks to its pedestrian aspect, its narrow streets, and its old facades. Visit while strolling.

Clermont l'Hérault is a very lively town centre, gateway to the Grand Site de France Salagou - Cirque de Mourèze. The building that dominates the heart of the town is the imposing St Paul's church: a remarkable example of southern Gothic. Embedded in the city ramparts, this 13th century building was part of a defensive system. The interior is incredibly bright and airy... On Wednesday mornings, a wonderful market is held around the Saint-Paul church. The town is overlooked by the Guilhem castle. Built on the site of the Puech Castel which dominates the town, the building dates from the 12th century. Despite a turbulent history, it has retained its typical circular towers and some ramparts. An exceptional and very rare testimony to a bygone era, it was recently restored by the town: you will be impressed by the magnificent views of the town and the plain from the castle grounds. In Clermont, we love going down from the Saint-Paul church and window shopping in the rue du Doyen René Gosse to reach the Allées Salengro: the lively heart of the city, and a wonderful Languedoc atmosphere, with plane trees and wines to boot...

The town belongs to the southern French type of circular villages (circulades) grouped around a church or a castle. Several houses in the town centre are also protected - e.g. the Maison des Emigrants and the Maison des Consuls and of course our house in the rue des remparts. Some parts of the late medieval town wall (remparts) and two gates are still standing.
