A very impressive cathedral, beautifully decorated. The statue of St. James is in the sacristy and is therefore unfortunately not open to the public.

A lively and worth seeing city with a lot of history and a long tradition of the Way of St. James.

The church is interesting. The tour not. It takes you next to a dangerous road without a ramp. We made a u-turn as not to endanger ourselves.

The patronage of this church, "Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption," refers to one of the many memorial days or feast days in honor of the Mother of God, Mary. This dates back to the feast of her bodily assumption into heaven. The (Catholic) church celebrates this feast every year on August 15th. In Orthodox churches, the feast is called the "Dormition of the Virgin Mary." In rural areas with a predominantly Catholic population, it used to be customary for the population to collect bundles of herbs on this special day and to bless them in a festive service. In isolated cases, this old custom has survived to the present day.

Urt is already Basque land. The Church is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta.

The beautiful city of Bayonne is full of history. Walking through its streets is a delight, not only because of the beauty of its architecture, but because it is also a trip to the past. Here is the Marracq Castle, where, in 1808, the acts of abdication of King Charles IV of Spain and his son Ferdinand VII in favor of Napoleon Bonaparte were signed.
