The 9-stage lock staircase on the Canal du Midi has a visitor center with an interactive cinema and restaurant. The parking space costs €7, or you can park your car in the free visitor space and take the 8-kilometer circular walking tour through the city. Brochure available from the city information office.

The Fonseranes locks are also known as the nine locks. This structure on the Canal du Midi includes nine gates and eight basins which allow you to overcome a difference in altitude of 21.50 meters.

Tunnel de Malpas, very narrow path through the tunnel, I had to carry my bike. Fortunately noone was coming the other way. This is a multi-level construction. The road passes over the canal tunnel, which passes over the rail tunnel, which passes over the drainage tunnel from the Etang de Montady. A train passed under my feet when I was in the canal tunnel, weird!

Must see! The 7 euro parking fee and entrance fee are worth it. A spectacle, especially in the high season, when the boats are locked at high speed.
