The town of Villevêque is dominated by a castle, the former residence of the bishops of Angers. This land of mills also has a small beach adjoining the Loir which offers a pleasant moment of relaxation.

This mill was in operation as early as the 12th century. Initially used for grinding wheat, it was used from the 19th century onwards for tanning and hemp processing. The Motte mill also had a backup windmill which took over when flooding prevented the main mill from operating.

This type of boat is a type of boat that allows you to cross a watercourse using a cable stretched between each bank. That of Roche Foulques connects the two banks of the Loir between Soucelles and Villevêque.

The Étang des Sablières in Écouflant is located in a park which offers a variety of paths which wind through a forest of willows, wild fruit trees, heather and oaks, and around several ponds surrounded by gorse. The Sablières pond is an ideal place to enjoy nature and have fun with family or friends.

The Roche Foulques chain ferry is a ferry that connects the two banks of the river between Soucelles and Villevêque, and which operates thanks to your own strength. All you have to do is pull the chains to move the tray forward on the water. It is a fun and relaxing activity that allows you to enjoy the natural beauty of the Basses Vallées Angevines. The ferry is free and open from March to November. It can only carry adults, small animals and light bikes, so leave your car and motorbike behind. The Roche Foulques chain ferry is an excellent way to discover the Loir in a different way.

Villevêque Castle is a former residence of the bishops of Angers. This 12th century fortress, which overlooks the Loir, was rebuilt twice after being besieged during the Hundred Years' War. Today it houses a museum which presents a rich collection of art from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, donated by the collector Daniel Duclaux. There you can admire sculptures, ceramics, tapestries and furniture from different periods and regions. You can also walk in the garden, where part of the Elne cloister (14th century) has been reconstructed. The Château de Villevêque is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
