A child of Pontacq, General Barbanègre distinguished himself in the Napoleonic infantry, defending the town of Huninge during the Hundred Days, holding 20,000 Austrian soldiers in check with 135 able-bodied soldiers. He will surrender 12 days after the Emperor's surrender. on this occasion, he is credited with this famous saying: "I have ammunition, food and honour: I will not surrender." His birthplace is still visible in the village.
