The Château de Caen is one of the largest medieval fortifications in Europe. Palace of William the Conqueror, royal fortress and infantry barracks, each century of its history has left as many clues scattered over time, from the restored ramparts overlooking the keep to the Chessboard Room, the Church of Saint-Georges and the Governor's House.

This new Notre-Dame de Lourdes, which reproduces on a two-thirds scale the basilica of the Pyrenean pilgrimage, is consecrated on 23 July 1882 by Monseigneur Le Coq, bishop of Nantes, and former priest of the church of Saint-Jean de Caen. (source website lepetitlourdes.com)

Caen Castle is a fortified complex in the old city centre of Caen, which stands on a rocky spur. Founded around 1060 by Duke William of Normandy

Since March 2023 and until 2025, work will be carried out under the direction of architect Philippe Prost and landscape architect Thierry Lavergne to transform the castle grounds. Entitled "The castle within its walls", the 4-hectare site will be given over to 75% green space. The avenues will be redesigned to structure this large inner garden and guide visitors. A 700 m² reception area will be built towards the Porte des Champs. The "hidden treasures" will be highlighted, such as the remains of the keep, the towers of the ramparts and the dungeons of the Saint-Pierre gate.
