The remaining bunker Wn MKB Oye Plage is an impressive remnant of the Second World War and is part of the Atlantic Wall. This bunker is a slanted observation tower designed to resemble a church doorway, in order to mislead British anti-aircraft gunners. The tower is still slanted due to a failed attempt to destroy the building with explosives before the German troops withdrew. The bunker is four storeys high and contains openings for observation and range finding. The internal staircases have been removed for security reasons, so that only the ground floor is accessible. Inside the bunker you can still see the remains of the iron doors and loopholes. .

The Réserve Naturelle Nationale du Platier d'Oye is a magnificent nature reserve located near Dunkirk. This reserve covers an area of 391 hectares and offers a unique ecosystem with a rich biodiversity. Here you can discover 230 species of birds, 20 species of mammals and 361 species of flowers and plants. It is an important stopover for migratory birds along the coast of the Manche and the North Sea. There are three marked hiking trails through the dunes and wetlands, which are popular with botanists, birdwatchers and regular walkers. The reserve is always open and offers a wonderful place to explore nature and enjoy the peace and beauty of the area.

The Leaning Tower of Oye-Plage is a German blockhouse from the Second World War, designed to imitate a church steeple and mislead British aviators. Located a few kilometers north of the real bell tower, it resisted post-war demolition attempts, remaining tilted about twenty degrees, hence its nickname.

It is a German blockhouse built during World War II as a directional shooting post to monitor the strait of Dover for potential invasions. The tower was built in the shape of a church tower with a cross on top to deceive British pilots. The tower is located on the road to the dunes at “Les Escardines” and is visible from there. The tower was built by Russian prisoners under German command and was completed in 1942. The tower was painted brown, decorated with fake stained glass, and an 11:50 clock face to resemble the church tower of Mardyck near Dunkirk. The tower leans due to an explosion that occurred on September 5, 1944, when German soldiers attempted to destroy it before leaving the area. The tower has become a tourist attraction and is easily recognizable as a landmark.

Supposedly a northern French variant of the famous “Leaning Tower of Pisa” in Italy. But – as so often in life – appearances can be deceiving: this building is not a Christian building, but rather a facility that was formerly used for military purposes.
