At the start of the 1900s, Hardelot was still just a huge warren, mainly attracting hunters. In 1905, an English patron, Sir John Whitley, already owner of the Château d'Hardelot and promoter of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, wanted to make Hardelot the new fashionable seaside resort and social center for sports. He buys 400 hectares of land and creates "the company of Hardelot". In 1911, the illustrious aviator Louis Blériot had a villa built on the dyke. He designed and marketed the first French aeroplage, the ancestor of the sand yacht, which would attract a large number of enthusiasts to the resort's beach. The interwar period marked the peak of Hardelot, which rivaled Le Touquet Paris-Plage and attracted personalities from all over Europe. Many villas are built, where the big names in champagne, textiles and French gastronomy reside. But disfigured by the numerous destruction of the 2nd World War, the station must then be rebuilt. It has become a classic seaside resort lining up modern buildings on its seafront. Note that here is judged the arrival of the Lille-Hardelot hiking-cycling race which takes place in May.
