Ancient fortifications which protected the town of Falaise, mainly known as the birthplace of William the Conqueror. Very beautiful and impressive building!

The Porte des Cordeliers is a medieval gate and one of the remains of the fortified enclosure which surrounded the town of Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror. The gate was built in the 13th century and was guarded by Franciscan monks, also known as Cordeliers. You can admire the architecture of the gate and its neighboring tower, as well as the view of the countryside and the Château de Falaise.

The Pont des Vers bridge is an old stone bridge that spans the Orne River, which runs through the hamlet of Pont des Vers, in the Normandy region, France. The bridge is part of the GR 36, a long-distance hiking route which connects Ouistreham, in the north, to Bourg-Madame, in the south. The bridge offers wonderful views of the river and surrounding countryside, and it is a popular spot for fishing, kayaking and picnicking. The bridge is also a historical landmark, as it was used by the French Resistance during World War II to sabotage German troops who occupied the area.

Château Ganne is an old castle from the 11th century. Its remains are a delight for walkers. There is something so much more accessible to getting a sense of a place than when visiting some much grander intact castles. You can run your fingers over the walls, walk among the ruins, and explore.

This is Marie Joly's grave. She was an actress in the 1700s and like many comedians today, she has a tragic history. She was a member of the Comédie-Française but, unfortunately, she was suspected of being a royalist and thrown into prison. While serving a short five-month sentence, she contracted tuberculosis and died at the age of 37. In recognition of his sad end, a stele dedicated to melancholy was erected next to his tomb.
