Vaison-la-Romaine is a town nestled in the heart of the Vaucluse region. It is renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage, especially its ancient Roman roots. The town is divided into two distinct areas: the upper town, perched on a hill and crowned by a medieval castle, and the lower town.

Castle can also be visited. Nice trip, with a brochure in FR/EN/DU/NL you can wander through the castle yourself and learn about its long history. They also have a limited catering facility but fine for a typical French lunch with delicious cheeses, an ice cream or a drink. If you order a cappuccino, then drive up the local climb a few times because with a normal cappuccino with a huge dollop of whipped cream and a rich chocolate as an extra.

This Roman bridge somehow forms the junction between the current town and the medieval town which you can admire on its rocky promontory. During the severe floods of September 21 and 22, 1992, this ancient Roman building resisted well to the devastating flood which devastated the city.
