At the Abbey of Saint-Savin, a sight you'll never tire of awaits: the Gartempe River flowing gently past the ancient stone walls, and the medieval Pont de Saint-Savin spanning the river, with the abbey in the background. A magnificent view! The combination of water, bridge, and Romanesque architecture makes this a perfect oasis. Take a moment to sit on the banks.

The abbey is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its comprehensive and well-preserved collection of Romanesque wall paintings. It is worth visiting for that alone. The abbey site has been occupied since at least the 9th century.

Route of "La vigne aux moines", very nice, well shaded along La Gartempe, can be traveled on foot or by mountain bike. Very nice terminus at the guinguette "Les petits Sardines".
