The village is distinguished by its mystical Notre-Dame church, in Romanesque style and dedicated to the Virgin. Its openings date from the 16th century and its chevet has the particularity of being flat. It holds a remarkable statue representing Saint-Jacques le Majeur, dating from the 15th century and classified as an object in the inventory of Historical Monuments. The priest Frédéric Courtois, born in 1860 in the commune, was appointed curator of the Sikowé scientific museum in Shanghai in 1902. Passionate about ornithology, he discovered species previously unknown including two garulax since named Courtois' garulax, today threatened with extinction.

The Church does not have a transept in its center. Made up of a nave, a bell tower, a heart and a sacristy, the church of Saint Germain le Gaillard was built more “modestly” than its neighbors. Having a stained glass rose window on the west portal, the warm colors of the sunsets pierce the glass to flood the heart of the Church with light. Seven large stained glass windows overlook the interior of the church. On one side we find: the Curé d’Ars; Saint Joseph ; the Child and Mary; Saint Pierre. On the other side Bernadette Soubirous; Jesus before the apostles Peter Jacques and John, Louis IX. But a bay remains, empty, filled by a sheet of Plexiglas. This is where the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist will take place. It is this last stained glass window that we will talk about next.

The château, built in the 19th century and renovated by the Marquis d'Aligre with the intention of making it the most luxurious residence in the region, still retains various vestiges of the princely home, formal French gardens, reception rooms, an enclosed courtyard, stables, and a chapel. It currently houses the Saint-François school, the Notre-Dame vocational high school, and the Notre-Dame des Jardins horticultural and landscape high school.

In 1862, at a time when Napoleon III found himself facing anticlerical opposition, the bishop of Chartres sought to bring together Catholics certainly in his cathedral but also in the countryside. He has in his possession a relic of Saint James and decides to offer it to the Saint-Jacques church in Montlandon. Where does he get it from? Is it one of the two relics existing in Chartres before the Revolution, one attested at the Saint-André church in the 15th century, the other at the Hôtel-Dieu in the following century? The mystery remains. The same year, the parish priest, Father Joly, wrote a 28-page brochure entitled Historical notice on Saint James the Greater, his origin, his vocation, his apostolate, his death, his translation and his miracles followed by some reflections on the founding of a pilgrimage to Montlandon, printed in Chartres by the printer Garnier, which he sold for the benefit of his church, with the approval of his bishop. This attempt to found a pilgrimage was unsuccessful. The reliquary is still at the back of the church but could do with some serious cleaning. The church of Montlandon could today once again become a small local sanctuary, within walking distance of former pilgrims from Compostela or of those who will never go as far as Galicia. Magnificent view of the river estate with the Boizard mill and the Château de la Rivière built in the 17th century by the Aligre family. Nice road in the woods, bodies of water and benches for picnicking.
