12월 4, 2024, Mont Aigoual
Wonderful mountain with a wonderful view. We stayed there on our long-distance hike from Tarifa (Spain) to Switzerland and can highly recommend the camp.

Very nice place to contemplate the surrounding landscapes in favorable weather conditions. Presence of a bar/restaurant and a panoramic table at height.

Mont Aigoual is the second highest peak in the Cévennes after Mont Lozère. Renowned for its meteorological observatory, it offers breathtaking panoramic views. It’s a popular place for mountain bikers!

2월 22, 2023, Meyrueis and the Jonte River
Meyrueis is a pretty village at the confluence of the Jonte, the Béthuzon and the Brèze, which would certainly be the origin of its name "mixture of watercourses" in Occitan (mesclar=mix & rius=course of water).

Mount Aigoual, at an altitude of 1,565 meters, is one of the southernmost peaks of the Massif Central mountain range. It also lies on the border between the Gard and Lozère departments. Here you'll find a weather station, as well as a snack bar and refreshment bar. On a clear day, the panorama is exceptional, offering views stretching from the Alps to the Pyrenees, and from the Puy de Sancy to the Mediterranean. Beware of sudden temperature changes and wind.

At the top of the Trépaloup pass, there is an isolated schist menhir. This megalithic monument stands in an unparalleled setting, to the east of Mont Aigoual.

This section marks the actual core of the route: the ascent from Valleraugue to Mont Aigoual, the second highest point in the Cevennes, on which there is a weather station and viewing platform. There is a view to the Mediterranean in a southerly direction, which I was not allowed to do that day, and in a northerly direction to Mont Lozère. I would take sticks with me next time, because as an experienced trail runner you will speedhike over long distances. You don't have to constantly stare at your GPS, because you can't get lost on the ascent, at least. Theoretically there is a restaurant up here where you can buy something to eat or drink. When I got up here everything was closed and there were hardly any people around. So better take precautions.
