The construction of the Calais Town Hall was decided upon following the merger of the municipalities of Calais and Saint-Pierre. Work began in 1911 under the direction of the Dunkirk architect Louis Debrouwer. It is a precursor to the style, using reinforced concrete for reinforcement and red bricks as the cladding. The construction of the Sainte Germaine church was a long project, fraught with pitfalls and uncertainties.
