Rode this part yesterday with a road bike and regretted it even though my bike survived. Probably best suited with a MTB because of the rocky nature of the descent.

The climb up the Cran d'Escalles is a feat of bravery, but the spectacle at the top is worth it.

Small, cozy village with a Romanesque church, drinking fountain but ... no catering facilities.

Located 15 kilometers from Calais, this small town boasts a rich historical heritage. It was not far from here that Francis I and Henry VIII met for the "Interview at the Field of the Cloth of Gold." In 1785, its national forest also served as the landing site for the first flight over the sea. Don't miss the Clock Tower in its center.

To the north of Cap Blanc Nez (halfway to Sangatte) is the statue of Hubert Latham, a pioneer of French aviation who attempted to cross the English Channel in 1909. On July 19, he took off from Cap Blanc-Nez in his plane Antoinette IV. After 13 km, he had engine problems. The tower has been perched on the hill of the feudal motte-and-bailey castle since 1763 and offers a view of Calais, the Côte d'Opale, the Flemish plain and the bocage around Boulogne. At its foot is an interactive museum dedicated to the past of Guînes: the arrival of the Vikings, the founding of the city by Sifrid around 800, the meeting at the Camp du Drap d'Or.

If you're already there, the view is definitely worth it. Both over the sea and towards the land. It's definitely worth the effort of the climb.

Escalles is located in an evergreen valley and has a beautiful pebble beach with sand and rocks, surrounded by numerous hiking trails. On clear days you can see the English coast from Escalles. The village has approximately 228 inhabitants. Escalles attracts tourists with its views of the hinterland. The main tourist attraction is Cap Blanc-Nez, the northernmost cliff in all of France, classified and a member of the Great Territories of France. This cliff, made of rocks and chalk marl, rises to 134 meters high and is home to impressive flora and fauna. The village dates back to the time of the Roman conquest. In the center of Escalles you will find three restaurants and a hotel.
