The cathedral in Troyes was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul (SAINTS PIERRE et PAUL), also known as the "Prince of the Apostles." Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is June 29th. * Simon, nicknamed Peter (Rock), was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when he, along with his brother Andrew, was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisher of men." According to Catholic understanding, he is the highest apostle, and the two-millennia-long line of popes—currently Francis—follows his succession. In statues and paintings, Peter is almost always depicted with two keys in his hand; this attribute refers to the biblical passage in Matthew: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Chapter 16, Verse 19). * Paul was initially an opponent of the Christian movement and, unlike the other apostles, was not called to the apostleship by Jesus Christ during his lifetime. Instead, he was converted later with the famous "Damascus Experience." His attribute is the sword with which he was executed. According to Roman law at the time, such a sentence was a "privilege" (a quick death, not a long, painful death struggle like other forms of execution) reserved for the citizens of Rome.

Troyes is one of the cities in France which has managed to keep its architectural heritage from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance intact. Strolling through the pedestrian streets of this city is a feast for the eyes. The number of half-timbered houses is impressive. We owe this wealth in part to the important fairs of the past and also to the textile industry.

From here you have an overall view of the canal, the fountain in the middle, the statues and the war memorial. It's a great place to stop and refuel.

Coming out of a path in the shade of the trees, you cross the Seine by taking a railway bridge worthy of the 7th company! Very nice work that allows you to reach Troyes in a very nice way. The rails are still in place and you have to roll on the metal plates along them. Unusual!

Troyes is located in the northeast of France, in the Champagne region. The aristocratic district lies around the imposing cathedral from the 13th century. Merchants and artisans lived in the market district of the half-timbered old town just a short distance away. The canals of the Seine separate the two areas and frame them. Some roofs of the houses in the old town are so close together that even cats can get from one store to another. The alleys in between are therefore also called cat alleys. Troyes gets really romantic at night. Half-timbered houses, churches and other striking buildings as well as the steel heart of Michèle and Thierry Kayo-Houët, which is the symbol of the city, are illuminated.

A surprisingly lively small town in the French provinces. Centuries ago it was once very important, with a well-preserved, homogeneous cityscape from the Renaissance. The streets are full of bars and restaurants, lots of young people, nice atmosphere.
