This little haven of peace is located in the Val d'Escreins, in the Queyras regional park. You can stop there for a night or stay longer to explore the surroundings. You can also stop for a gourmet break (traditional local cuisine, homemade pastries). All information on opening dates and for reservations can be found on the website https://www.refuge-basserua.fr/

They say it is always open even in self-managed mode. Search for phone number on the web. quota 2650 base for many important excursions.

It was closed when I stopped by at the end of September 2023. A good alternative is the gite in Saint Paul sur Ubaye, which is open all year round.

12 August 2023 the water source near the Barenghi bivouac is dry

Small comfortable bivouac quite popular in season, with hikers who come to enjoy the region or climbers who tackle the south face of the Aiguilles. During my visit, it was neither very tidy nor very clean, unfortunately.

Hike without interest unless coupled with a meal in this refuge (accessible by car). There are other hikes starting from this parking lot
