The old fortified town of La Couvertoirade was an agricultural bastion for the Templars who were well established in Larzac in the 12th century. Cultivation of cereals, breeding of sheep and horses, the environment is conducive to this agricultural activity. It was in the 14th century that the ramparts were built to protect against a group of mercenaries, the Rovers, who pillaged and sacked Larzac.

Retrace the history of the Hospitallers at La Couvertoirade. The Order of the Temple erected the defensive castle in the 13th century. Two centuries later, the knights of the Order of Malt built the enclosure of the ramparts in order to protect the inhabitants from the truckers.

In the time of the Templars, in the 12th and 13th centuries, La Couvertoirade was a village on the road to the Holy Land, and had to be able to supply pilgrims. The town was fortified later, in the 15th century, because more or less organized gangs plundered the villages of Larzac.

“Expectation management” is particularly important with younger children ;) Without free climbing experience, normally fit to experienced hiking families have difficulty hiking through the cliffs - and have to turn around. It's better to prepare for it. It's still nice though!
