The Old Bridge of Balizy, or the Templar Bridge, spans the Rouillon. Hidden in the heart of the Templar Woods, and surrounded by magnificent forest paths, it is a superb place for a mountain bike ride.

The bridge over the Orge, near the Bassin du Breuil in Épinay-sur-Orge, is a charming passage that offers a peaceful view of the river and its green banks. Surrounded by trees and paths, this bridge is an ideal place for a contemplative break. The murmur of the water and the serenity of the landscape invite you to relax.

I am unable to judge whether this bridge is actually connected to the Knights Templar Order, as described in the highlight title (the exact name would be “Poor Knighthood of Christ and the Solomonic Temple in Jerusalem”). In this case it would have to go back to the 12th or 13th century.

The construction style suggests that the bridge post-dates the Templars, but it is quite old. The bridge is said to be part of the pilgrim road from Paris to Santiago de Compostela, which would explain the interest of the Templars, responsible for pilgrimage routes, in the road. Fun sunlight effects at the end of autumn days. In October, the bridge is the Centre of a medieval day, a delight of children of all ages. Check the web site of the city of Longjumeau for an exact date.

An airport in little Epinay-Sur-Orge? Sort of. Model airplanes take off frequently and crashes-land almost as often here. The place is busy on Friday afternoon and weekends. The club could be more welcoming to visitors. Fun for children.

Only the locals know this spot. Stand on the manhole cover and realise that this water will continue in the Yvette, the Orge and the Seine to end up in the Atlantic Ocean…

Many pass this spot, walking their dog. Few notice the waterfall. The birds know it, though, especially on a hot day. A fine place to “sits and thinks” or just to “sits”. ;-)

Three forest paths meet here. Yet the area is quiet and peaceful. Can be muddy after rainfall.
