The Trieux is a 72 km long river which crosses Guingamp then Pontrieux before flowing into the sea by an estuary of about 18 km.

The town of Pontrieux, nicknamed the little Venice of Trégor because you can do sightseeing by boat on its river, has the particularity of having more than 50 washhouses in its town. It is a pleasant place that will remind you a little of Pont-Aven.

A little gem nestled on the banks of the Trieux, Pontrieux is a small town of character with medieval origins dating back to the 15th century. Today, a light trail allows you to discover the city in a new light. Pontrieux is also called the city of fifty wash houses due to the many wash houses (mostly private) which run along the banks of the Trieux. Pontrieux also has a small marina which adds to the charm of its narrow streets and half-timbered houses. A real asset for lovers of the sea. Bréhat, Jersey and Guernsey are all destinations easily accessible by sailboat!

Classified as a Natura 2000 navigation area, the Trieux originates further upstream inland and flows into the port of Loguivy-de-la-Mer, in the English Channel. Its valley is a paradise for hiking and getting away from it all in nature. Going down the river in a kayak offers a trip to the heart of little-known Brittany.

Guingamp was the starting point of our tour of Brittany because we could safely park the car for 10 days at a hotel on the outskirts of the city. Guingamp itself was then a surprisingly pretty town. We didn't expect that at all.
