The Château de Pernant is a modest-sized medieval fortress located in Pernant, in the Soissonnais region of France. It is the historic monumental part of a larger whole, the Pernant estate, which serves as a cultural and musical center. The castle dates from the 14th/15th century and was rebuilt in the 16th century. During the First World War the area was bombed, causing extensive damage to the castle.

The abbey was founded in 1131 by Bernard of Clairvaux at the request of Josselin of Vierzy, the bishop of Soissons. The abbey was plundered in the 16th century and restored in the 18th century. The abbey is a historic monument and is included in the list of historic monuments of France. The ruins of the abbey are open to the public and offer beautiful views of the 13th century Gothic church, chapter house, cloister and cellars.

The Cistercian abbey stands as a ruin and testimony to great Gothic architecture like a film set on the edge of the forest. the greatest damage was caused by the revolution, after which the buildings were demolished. In the 1.WK there were further damages, which have remained until today. You pay admission to visit and can use this relatively quiet place for worship. Everything is much more manageable than, for example, in the Abbey of Ourscamp (near Compiegne).
