Magnificent view of the Château d'Acquigny (whose garden can be visited) and the Eure valley

A place of Norman magic.

The Mesnil Jourdain church, built between the 15th and 16th centuries, is part of a remarkable ensemble with the neighboring Hellenvilliers manor. The church has a defensive bell tower which rests on a pillar in the middle of the nave, a rare architectural feature in the region. You can admire the recently restored stone gargoyles and balustrade, as well as the stained glass windows and paintings inside the church.

Church of Acquigny

One of the particularities of this very beautiful Gothic church in the Flamboyant style is that it has a series of eleven windows made between 1490 and 1530. The city was spared the looting of the wars of religion because it housed the Parliament of Normandy during the sack of Rouen by the Protestants in 1562. These beautiful stained glass windows were consequently free of any damage.

This castle is ideally placed at the confluence of the Eure and the Iton rivers. This stream was diverted from its bed to feed the moats of this beautiful building. It can be admired from the park gate.

The Château de Houetteville, a private castle visible from the road, is an old Renaissance castle transformed into a neo-medieval castle by Henri Jacquelin around the 1930s. “Jacquelin again transformed a simple neo-classical house in Houetteville into a medieval castle, with astonishing fantasy. In an economically paralyzed country, Houetteville was perhaps the last neo-Gothic castle in France. Extravagant edifice, which prefers to ignore its time to artificially continue a way of life long gone.”

The Sainte-Cécile church is located in Acquigny, in the Eure. Built in the 16th century, it was remodeled in the 18th century. It is classified as a historical monument.
