Phare de Saint-Mathieu is the name of a lighthouse in the village of Saint-Mathieu on the Saint-Mathieu Point in Plougonvelin in the Finistère department. It was built on the site of the former Saint-Mathieu Abbey. Its theoretical range is 29 nautical miles, which is approximately 55 kilometers. Together with the Kermorvan lighthouse, it indicates the Passage du Four (Chenal du Four), an important north-south passage from or to the Iroise Sea, which runs between the mainland and the island of Ouessant, thus saving about two days of travel time. In conjunction with the Portzic lighthouse, it illuminates the entrance to the Bay of Brest. The lighthouse has been listed as a French Historic Monument since May 23, 2011. It is open to the public. Just west of the lighthouse is the Sémaphore de la Pointe Saint-Mathieu.

Unfortunately, there's no restaurant. But the Breton cakes and biscuits are divine.

Like a string of pearls, the ships lie here on a mooring line, nestled between the land on either side of the fjord. The vantage point offers the ideal spot to discover things and nature, to get to know everything, and to enjoy yourself.

The church of Plouguerneau, dedicated to the holy apostles Peter and Paul, was built between 1852 and 1855 to the designs of the architect Bigot to replace the old 17th-century church, which had been destroyed by a hurricane. Inside, there is a rich heritage of furnishings and remarkable statuary (altar, entombment, "little saints," and a 15th-century processional cross). Brief Chronology A story steeped in legend tells how, in the 6th century, Saint Jaoua, nephew and successor of Saint Pol Aurélien in the episcopal see of Léon, entrusted the parish of Plouguerneau to his friend Kenan in 553. Much later, in the 15th century, the first lists of rectors for the parish and the first mentions of the existence of a church are found. At the end of the 17th century, a new church was built, of which the bell tower remains today, with a stone dated 1701, as well as two altarpieces and two banners. The present church therefore dates from the mid-19th century. According to a commemorative plaque affixed to the interior wall of the bell tower, the church was consecrated by Bishop Graveran, Bishop of Quimper, on September 20, 1853; however, according to Abbot Pérennès, this consecration took place almost three years later, on July 19, 1855. The Calvary with three crosses (Christ with the two Thieves crucified with Him) visible near the church was placed in 1881. The plaister was refurbished in 2000. The High Altar The Little Saints These small statues – about forty of them – are still carried in procession through the town today. They can be seen during the parish pardon on the last Sunday in June, during the pardon of Saint Michael at the end of September, and especially during the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th, the day of the great march from the Grouaneg church to the Saint Michael chapel. The tombstone Beneath this stone dating from 1885 lies Monsignor Jean-Dominique de Poulpiquet de Brescanvel, born on April 4, 1759, who was rector of Plouguerneau before and after the Revolution and then Bishop of Quimper and Léon from 1823 until his death on May 1st, 1840. https://abers-patrimoine.bzh/kpoi/eglise-st-pierre-et-st-paul/
