A magical place, ideal as a starting point for hikes and, of course, for visiting the ruins.

Very nice complex, although only a fraction of the original buildings are still there. 3D tour is highly recommended as it gives a good impression of the earlier buildings

In the heart of the Risle valley, located on a spur dominating the town centre, the Medieval Château of Montfort-sur-Risle, 11th – 12th centuries, will reveal all the secrets of Ducal Normandy to you, while Hugues de Montfort, Constable of Normandy , accompanied William the Conqueror in his conquest of England in 1066. The strategic position of the fortress, listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, offers an exceptional panoramic view of the valley. Located near the Montfort national forest, the complex covers 4.6 hectares and is the subject of a conservation and enhancement program.

L'édifice est classé au titre des monuments historiques le 15 Mars 1918. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Saint-Valentin_de_Jumi%C3%A8ges "The church was built in the 12th century at the request of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Jumièges. A renovation was carried out in the 16th century, including the choir, which was rebuilt in Renaissance style but was unfinished. The church is a parish church after the French Revolution. The building was classified as a historic monument in 1918." The church is in the middle of the cemetery and must have been planned to be much larger. The different architectural styles and the wooden tower in the middle are exciting.

The monastery's origins date back to 645. The Vikings burned it down in 841. Over time, however, it became one of the most influential monasteries in France. Until the French Revolution brought an end to this power and also to the monastery itself. Mainly remains of the two impressive churches have been preserved. But the gatehouse, the new apartment and the bakery are also still in the extensive park. Information in German here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abtei_Jumièges Please note the opening times when visiting. We were surprised by the lunch break from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Former Benedictine abbey founded by Saint Philibert, son of a Frankish Count of Vasconia around 654 http://www.abbayedejumieges.fr/fr/home/ By bike from Duclair, take the route du Conihout (1st on the left after the Mesnil-sous-Jumièges ferry) much nicer than the main road and without a car. It will take you to the abbey.
