Beautiful view of the Mâconnais vineyards

Parish church. The seat of a former Benedictine priory, the church of Chevagny was sold during the Revolution as national property, but was bought back secretly by the priest and became his private property, then that of his heirs until a decree of expropriation in the Council of State, dated April 15, 1851, returned it to the commune. This story, which was told in all its detail by Father Bernard Rebuffet, is both singular and instructive. It reminds us of the trials that village churches and their priests went through, often won over, at the beginning, to new ideas during the dark years of the Revolution. The church of Chevagny is an example of the pernicious effects of a long lack of maintenance on the frames and the lava roofs. The Sauvegarde de l’Art français gave 10,000 F in 1978 for the most urgent repairs needed by this small church which was built in the 14th century.

Mountain biking on Mont Rouge in Hurigny offers a challenging but rewarding experience with varied terrain and panoramic views. You will ride through the vineyards of the Burgundy countryside. Once at the top, it is worth stopping to admire the incredible views.

Up here between the highest vineyards you will find a wonderful view towards the Sâone valley and a lot of peace and quiet.
