Muddy path after the rain

Small town on the bank of the Yonne, and at the junction of the Gurgy Diversion, a section of Canal that joins two parts of the river.

Heritage complex consisting of an abbey, the village church and the fortifications of an old castle

Founded in 1209 on the edge of the forest of Othe by the Order of Gramont, a religious community which had an important influence in the region, this priory was ruined by the Hundred Years War, but rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century. The order was abolished in 1772 and the building sold for its stones during the French Revolution. Of the priory, all that remains today is the arcature of the facade as well as the ruins of the chapel and the priory dwelling. In the 19th century, there were still ribbed vaults, but they collapsed. The apse which had walls rising up to 4 m also collapsed during the winter of 1996-1997. It is a private property open to the public only on certain occasions such as heritage days. Difficult to see anything other than the facade visible from the road. From this vantage point, you can see the bridge and the town of Joigny in all its glory, accentuated by the vineyards that surround you.

One tends to underestimate the town of Pourrain when driving from Toucy to Auxerre on the D965. This road only affects the town and does not give a favorable image of this beautiful town. The climb to the church, the church itself and the square in front of the church form a very beautiful ensemble. The village is located on a hill that dominates 3 surrounding valleys. Saint Serge Church is a very large church with a unique tower. The main tower with a large bell house and beautiful church clock is in the shape of a richly decorated keep. On the west side there is a slender tower that towers over the main tower and is equipped with shooting stocks.
