In 854, the King of Brittany donated the Île aux Moines to the Abbey of Saint Sauveur de Redon. In the 11th and 12th centuries, a first triple-nave chapel was built. It wasn't until the 16th century that the parish of Arradon was able to provide baptismal fonts due to the large number of births on the island and the difficulty of reaching Arradon, particularly in winter. The current church was built in 1802. On the coastal path of Île-aux-Moines, in Morbihan, a wooden pontoon overlooks the salt marshes. Accessible on foot, this place is perfect for observing the birds that populate these wetlands, with a clear view of the vegetation typical of the Breton coastline. The contrast between the marshes and the clear waters of the Gulf of Morbihan is particularly attractive.

The Kergonan Cromlech, the largest stone circle in France, awaits you here. To do this, stay in Locmiquel on the Route du Dolmen (do not turn left into Rue du Greignon) and walk up to the old stone house with the two gabled windows and the light blue shutters - here is the well signposted entrance to the stone circle (if you use the blue wooden gate reach, you are too far!).

Be careful just behind the public toilets: only a few meters later you will reach one of the mystical landmarks of the island, the Dolmen de Pen-Hap. The dolmen is evidence that the Ile aux Moines has been inhabited since at least the Neolithic period - it may not even have been an island then.
