To avoid the one-way D162f, I was suggested this "black" path as a bike path. Since there were no Trail View images, I left the Komoot plan as it was. However, there is no bike path at the location, nor any singletrack that would have been possible to ride. I sent this to Komoot. Alternatively, we had a "somewhat" steep path down to the former quarry. It was easily rideable, though. At the bottom, we continued on the D662 to Philippsbourg – with some traffic! However, I must say that almost all French people are very considerate towards cyclists – quite unlike in Germany.

The sawmill is now history, and the mill house is now a residential building, and the sawmill is no longer in use. Some of the equipment is still standing around. I didn't drive into the yard, though, for privacy reasons. The sawmill's pond is enormous, and you drive along it for quite a while on the road.

This is a truly special place. Impressive sandstone cliffs with a huge hole to look through. A spring at the foot of the cliffs, and further along the D87, a breathtaking tree-lined road. We were here completely alone on March 21, 2025 – no one, no cars – just an equally breathtaking bird concert.

The Lieschbach pond is a small bog pond classified as a nature reserve. The pond has a wooden pontoon that allows you to observe delicate flora and fauna, such as dragonflies, near the water. The pond is surrounded by forests and rocks, offering a beautiful view of the natural landscape.
