A remarkable event occurred on April 9, 1917, when Canadian troops launched their famous assault on Vimy Ridge, a pivotal battle that resulted in the capture of strategically important heights. The cemetery commemorates the sacrifices of these and other soldiers who fought in the region.

기븐쉬-앙-고엘르 캐나다 묘지는 영연방 전쟁묘지위원회(CWGC)가 관리하는 군사 묘지입니다. 이 묘지는 1917년 3월 캐나다 군단에 의해 조성되었으며 제1차 세계 대전 중 사망한 병사들의 무덤을 포함하고 있습니다. 기븐쉬-앙-고엘르는 1917년 4월 13일 제2 캐나다 사단에 의해 점령되었으며 전쟁이 끝날 때까지 영국군의 수중에 있었습니다.

The Givenchy-en-Gohelle Canadian Cemetery is a place of respect and remembrance, dedicated to the Canadian soldiers who fell during the First World War. Located on the heights, this peaceful site offers a serene view of the surrounding fields and Vimy Ridge. The rows of headstones, carefully aligned, recall the sacrifice of these men who came from far away to fight.

This viewpoint is located at the top of an old mining slag heap in the Parc de la Glissoire, a 55-hectare park which offers various activities such as fishing, canoeing and playgrounds. From the belvedere, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the landscape, in particular of the twin slag heaps of Loos-en-Gohelle, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The Parc des glissoires viewpoint is a privileged place to discover the beauty and diversity of the Pas-de-Calais region.

Although this fresco is located in town and on a secondary road, not very suitable for mountain biking but it is worth a look.
