Thérouanne was Sigeric's 77th stop on his return from Canturbey's pilgrimage to Rome. In the 19th century, this fortified town was a French enclave within the German Empire, but was razed by Charles V in 1553. On the hill north of the town are the remains of one of the first cathedrals built in the Gothic style in France. The famous Great God of Thérouanne, which adorned one of the portals, is now housed in Saint-Omer Cathedral.

With its 12th century (!) octagonal crossing tower in chalkstone, this church is one of the few remaining Romanesque buildings in French Flanders. The Gothic stone spire is one century younger and the side aisles were only added in the 16th and 17th centuries. Since 1913, the church has been recognized as a Monument Historique. The Beffroi d'Aire-sur-la-Lys is a monument that is part of the heritage of Aire-sur-la-Lys. It was first built in 1355 and rebuilt between 1716 and 1724 by the architect Hérogue. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1947 together with the adjacent town hall1. The beffroi is 45 meters high and rests on four large pillars of brick and stone, two meters thick, which demarcate an interior space of six meters wide. It is of Baroque style and is part of the list of 23 belfries inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 as part of the list of "Belfries of Belgium and France".

The Bailiff's House (French: bailliage) is a civil building in the town of Aire-sur-la-Lys, part of the Pas-de-Calais department, located on the corner of the Grand'Place, the Rue d'Arras and the Rue du Bourg. The building was already in use in 1600 as accommodation for the city militia. The architect, Pierre Framery, was inspired by the Old Town Hall of Amsterdam, built in Renaissance style. In the 17th and 18th centuries, justice was also administered here several times by the bailiff, hence the name of the building. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the building also served as a temporary town hall and police station. In 1970 the Office de Tourisme was housed here. Temporary exhibitions are held in the Great Hall. The building was classified as a historic monument as early as 1886.

The former fortified town, surrounded by greenery, an agricultural market between French Flanders and Artois, stands out for the high towers of the belfry and the collegiate church. The city was very prosperous under Spanish rule in the 16th and 17th centuries. There are still beautiful old facades to be seen in this peaceful town.

The current church took over the continuation of the Romanesque church consecrated in 1166 for the canon chapter inaugurated by Baudouin V in 1059. It was built between 1492 and 1634 and was carved from stone inside and out. Note the dates of progress of the work - the collegiate church of Saint-Pierre has been a parish church since 1803. When the successive wars (particularly the siege of 1710 and the bombing of August 8, 1944) repeatedly severely damaged the building it was always rebuilt according to the original plan3. The collegiate church was listed as a historical monument in 1862 and was restored several times in the 20th century (Wikipedia).
