Very beautiful greenway which immerses us in nature

The Fresco du Parc du Moulin, a high relief originally called “Frise Du Travail”, which sits behind the scenes of the green theater of the Breuillet mill park, is dedicated to the anonymous craftsmen who contributed to its creation. of the Paris Universal Exhibition, inaugurated on April 14, 1900. Where is she from ? This monument, 8 meters long and 2 meters high, made of ceramic, was a decorative element of the main entrance door to the exhibition. This ovoid-shaped gate, 40 meters high, pierced by three gigantic arches through which visitors entered, was called the “Monumental Gate”. It was designed in 1898 by the architect René Binet. The creation of the fresco is the work of two artists, Anatole Guillot, the sculptor, and Émile Muller, the ceramist. One sculpts the figures in clay, the other bakes them in the ovens of his factory “La Grande Tuilerie d’Ivry” (Ivry-sur-Seine). After the exhibition closed on November 12, 1900, the installations were demolished. Some monuments escape the demolition pickaxe Émile Muller recovers the fresco and stores it in his factory, where it is forgotten for 60 years! How the fresco arrived in Breuillet… Camille Bériot, successor to Émile Muller, created a brickworks in Breuillet in 1922. The region is rich in clay deposits suitable for the manufacture of refractory bricks. Little by little, the Ivry factory stops its production. Subsequently, Mr. Bériot bought the last miller in Breuillet, the mill, from the Hutteau family. For many years the vast premises of the mill were used as a shed. Then we created some company housing for the executives of the Muller company. The land adjoining the mill is landscaped as a park, decorated with beautiful ceramic sculptures from the Émile Muller collection. In the 1950s, part of the park was opened to company employees, then gradually to all Breuillet residents. Parties are organized there where, among others, the Portuguese folk group of Breuillet and the Kermesses perform… At the end of the 1950s - beginning of the 1960s, Roger Moessner, then director of the factory, arranged games for children in the public part of the park (sand pit, turnstile, slide, circular track for roller skates) and, for the most large, a bowling green and a rifle shooting range. He designed the construction of an open-air theater. We then remember that there are pieces of ceramic sculpture in a hangar of the disused factory in Ivry that could decorate this theater. We actually find the elements of the fresco, we assemble them on a concrete wall which constitutes the backdrop, and here is the resurrected “Work Frieze”! Breuillet Town Hall website
