4월 27, 2025, Maurice Ravel House
The beautiful, well-kept, and neat facade of this building might prompt a passing pedestrian to snap a spontaneous photo. Others head to this address specifically to visit the house. However, it's not an interest in architecture that draws them here, but rather in music. The famous composer Maurice (actually Joseph-Maurice) Ravel (born 1875, died 1937) lived here. The work that most people spontaneously associate with his name is certainly "Bolero." He wrote the piece in 1928 for the Russian dancer Ida Rubenstein (1885 to 1960). Ravel himself is said to have said: "I have only created one masterpiece, and that is the Bolero; unfortunately, it contains no music."

"God loves every soul with an undying love. He approaches each one with repeated, unspeakably patient offers of redemption. Even a small sign of love is enough for him to forgive and redeem. Our dear departed ones lacked a life preserver for the body; but the spiritual life preserver was not lacking, the breath of God in which the soul can clothe itself in a tiny moment, much more quickly than the body could." (Text by Albino Luciani / Pope John Paul I)

Right next to the lobby there is a bakery. They are used to welcoming cyclists. Everything is homemade, they are very nice. Table and chairs outside sheltered for eating. I've been there twice, never disappointed.

Former residence of Maurice Ravell, who liked it here so much that he stayed several times in the half-timbered house Les Lauriers on Rue d’Enfer and was inspired to create compositions by cobblestone streets and typical Norman half-timbered houses.

This village in the Norman Vexin region is utterly beautiful. Its central square, all curves, has many beautiful corbelled buildings to admire. The 17th-century wooden market halls are particularly noteworthy. This village, ranked among the most beautiful in France, is included in the Pays de Lyons region.

Three resistance comrades arrested a few hours later suffered the same fate. Walker, remember their sacrifice. Is Mortemer Abbey the most haunted in France! Built in the 12th century by the fourth son of William the Conqueror, this royal abbey of Normandy affiliated with the Cistercian order has been classified as a historic monument since 1966. Over the centuries, ghost stories have permeated the place and traveled to the four corners of the country. This abbey, its museum, its gardens and its pond can be visited (paying). The White Lady: The legend of Mathilde the Emperor, who appears today in the guise of a White Lady. Granddaughter of William the Conqueror and grandmother of Richard I the Lionheart, the young woman was somewhat “frivolous”. In an attempt to calm him down, his father locked him up in the abbey for five years. The height of her punishment was that she was dispossessed of the throne of England. She died in 1167, at the age of 60, and rests today in a tomb in Rouen Cathedral. Did she harbor a desire for revenge because of this confinement? Maybe. » She was so unhappy in Mortemer that she would return there on full moon evenings. “If you come across her with white gloves, it portends a happy event. If she has black gloves, it’s a sign of death.”

Charming chapel built in the 17th century housing a natural spring. Discovered and restored in 1987. the legend of the fountain of singles: So this legend concerns all women who want to find the man of their life in the year. This same fountain in the name of Saint-Catherine would have virtuous water. Indeed, young women came there to throw a coin or a hairpin in order to find a husband. Prayer: Saint Catherine be good, we only have hope in you. You are our boss. Have mercy on us. We implore you on our knees, help us get married. Pité !, give us a husband because we are burning to love. Deign to listen to the prayer of our deeply loving hearts. Oh !, you who are our mother, give us a husband.
