Simply always impressive

This brutalist church was built from 1965 to 1967 according to plans by architect Norbert Heltschl. The freestanding, sculptural bell tower is particularly striking. A drinking water fountain is located directly next to the tower.

Since 1986, the school rooms have been housed in the community center. In 1995, the old school building was demolished and the second part of the community center was built in its place.

The church of St. Gotthard was built between 1736 and 1737 and originally belonged to the parish of Wenns. In 1752 Jerzens received a chaplain, became a curate in 1849 and an independent parish in 1891.[3] In 1923 a municipal power station was built above the mill. Since 1955 the municipality has received its electricity from TIWAG. In 1954 the water pipe was built. In 1951 a dust avalanche on the alpine pasture and meadows swept away 30 hay barns. In 1966 a mudslide devastated the districts of Mühlloch and Niederhof.

The place name is first written down in a document from 1299 as Irss. The meaning is Romansh iert ('steep'). The original word was therefore *Iertes/Iertenes or similar.
