We bet you'll love Loches! Winding through the grand royal city, the charming cobbled streets offer glimpses of the courtyards of magnificent mansions, as well as the more open landscapes of the surrounding countryside. Stroll around, saunter, and soak up the atmosphere. The city center boasts a wealth of shops and restaurants. There's certainly plenty to be found in this city. A visit to the Jardin Public is also well worth it.

Above the town of Loches, on a rocky plateau, lies a royal complex. It includes three large building complexes: one of the oldest keep (medieval tower houses) in France in the south, a collegiate church in the center, and the Logis Royal (the royal castle) in the north. The entire complex is surrounded by a nearly two-kilometer-long ring wall. The entire complex is very impressive. If you're in the area, you should definitely take a detour to Loches. You can find interesting information about the complex on Wikipedia: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Loches

The Notre-Dame Collegiate Church is dedicated to Saint Ursus, who converted the region to Christianity in the 5th century. I was particularly impressed by the richly decorated Romanesque portal. Another important sight is the beautiful alabaster tombstone of Agnès Sorel, the mistress of King Charles VII, which radiates peace and gentleness.

Located in the Indre valley, the castle of Loches (and more precisely the Royal City of Loches) is part of the large family of Loire castles. Built on a long rocky outcrop, the fortified city is dominated by an imposing keep, a masterpiece of medieval military architecture. From the lower town to the fortress, the winding streets are dotted with architectural gems (Loches belongs to the network of cities and countries of Art and History): among them, the Saint-Ours collegiate church, Romanesque splendor with pyramids (the " dubes”) and the royal residence of the end of the Middle Ages, a high place in the History of France which welcomed Joan of Arc, Agnès Sorel and Anne of Brittany. Along a thematic path, the interactive tour evokes the destiny of men and women who left their mark on the history of these places. Immersive visit in augmented reality of the dungeon, thanks to the Histopad. The Royal City of Loches also hosts a new exhibition every year. The chancellery has an exceptional Renaissance façade, dated 1551 and inspired by the work of Michelangelo. It houses the Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Centre. This place, which is part of the prerogatives of the Villes et Pays d’art et d’histoire label, is freely accessible. On the ground floor, a permanent exhibition made up of five rooms tells the story of Loches. This exhibition is the heart of a system that includes a courtyard and outbuildings that have become places for exhibitions and events, as well as a garden treated as an amphitheater, a place for walking that can occasionally host concerts and shows. Two buildings placed one after the other constitute the Logis Royal. The first in the south was built by Charles VI around 1370 and the second in the north by Louis XII around 1498. The two wings were built in a Gothic style. In 1429, Joan of Arc met Charles VII in the great hall of the first to go to be crowned in Reims. A few years later, in 1444, the same king installed his first mistress Agnès Sorel in the house. She had three daughters by her lover, whom he legitimized by thus allowing them to marry later with the greats of the kingdom. Anne de Bretagne stayed at the Logis Royal between 1492 and 1510, in her role as Queen of France as the wife of Charles VIII and then Louis XII. She built an oratory decorated with her emblems, the ermine and the Cordelière. The cord of Anne de Bretagne represents the cord of the Franciscans where the knots are replaced by lakes of love. This royal dwelling built between the 14th and 16th centuries saw the passage of Charles VII, Louis XI, Joan of Arc, Agnès Sorel, Anne of Brittany... and many other royal figures who marked the history of France. Charles VIII and Louis XII extended it with a second building in flamboyant Gothic style. François I was the last king to stay there regularly.

The Logis Royal was one of the most popular Valois residences during the Hundred Years War. Charles VII had a first military-style building built at the end of the 14th century. His successors extended it to include a second wing with a Gothic facade in the flamboyant style. Three women have shaped the history of the Logis Royal: Jeanne d’Arc, Agnès Sorel and Anne de Bretagne. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loches
