The starting point of the cycle route along the Loire is apparently so beautiful that there are two of it. If you are looking for a relaxing and picturesque place to enjoy the beauty of the canal and the river, you can visit the Aubois lock site on the Loire lateral canal. This site consists of a lock with a gate, a canal bridge, a fixed bridge over the lock and a lock keeper's house. You will be able to admire the engineering and architecture of these structures, which date from the 19th century and were part of the construction of the canal parallel to the Loire. You will also be able to discover the history and innovation of this site, which was used to test a water saving system during the operation of the lock in 1868, and which saw the construction of a metal swing bridge in 1893.

Surely memorable but not seen during my visit too bad 😌

Just before the small bridge that allows you to cross the canal, a small bakery is available to you for a short break and the welcome there is remarkable. I keep a very good memory.

The small town of Marseilles-les-Aubigny has a pretty fitted out boat port, where the lateral canal of the Loire meets the old Canal du Berry. Equipped with toilets, sinks, showers and picnic area.

The famous "La Loire à Vélo" trail starts here, in La Guerche-Sur-l'Aubois, near Nevers. The start of this track is marked by a kilometer post on the ground. 900km long, relatively well marked and suitable for any type of bike, La Loire à Vélo will take you to Saint-Brevin-les-Pins in Loire-Atlantique.
