The old station building makes a solid impression from the outside. When the train came and stopped I was a bit shocked and thought to myself: "How am I supposed to get on with my bike and luggage on it 🤔🤔🤔?" Why this question? On March 18, 2024 I wanted to cycle from Bottendorf to Sangerhausen. I set off in wonderful sunshine. Shortly before Artern it got pretty cold and I decided to do that 🚂🚃🚃 to drive to Sangerhausen. And then came the hurdle - getting in - A step was extended to get in, but the entrance itself was very high from the curb to the step🤔. Which would have been difficult enough without the bike and luggage. I wouldn't have been able to get started on my own. Luckily there are nice, helpful people. At this point a big thank you to all the nice, helpful people 🤗🙏. In Sangerhausen the elevator that was supposed to go up to platform 4 was broken and a young, strong, helpful man came to help me there.

The neo-baroque town hall was built in 1906 as a free-standing plastered building on a low sandstone base with three floors. In terms of style, it was intended to follow the rest of the 18th-century market square development. The tower is set in the middle, the façade design appears asymmetrical.

The brine source is idyllically located in the Arterner Parkfriedhof and gave Artern a 500-year salt tradition. From the source in the cemetery, the brine flows out in a narrow bed onto the open meadow. From there it is called Solgraben. Since 1935 this brine area has been under nature protection. It is the smallest nature reserve in Europe of its kind (size approx. 1.63 ha) and the most important inland salt pan in Central Europe.

1200 years ago the moated castle Artern (“moated castle”) was built, presumably to secure the Unstrut ford. In their protection, a planned castle developed, which received city rights in 1329, the later "Neustadt" Artern. This hamlet already had a stone parish church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
