The village of Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne is remarkable for the scale of its landscapes, the rhythm of the mountains and depressions. It knows how to combine in a restricted space the charm of the foliage and the fir trees with the austerity of the rock walls, the impetuosity of the waterfalls with the intimacy of the undergrowth, the mystery of the caves with the picturesqueness of the belvederes.

Crossed by the Lison and its tributaries Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne is a pleasant village in which to take a break. From the 13th century, it was one of the first stops on the 'salt route' for convoys transporting salt from Salins Les Salines to Switzerland via the Jura passes. The bridge over the Lison was also the perfect place to collect the gabelle, the famous tax on salt in the Middle Ages.

A really great view - almost all around, if it weren't for the bushes to the north.

No reason not to stop at Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne. You will be given the opportunity to see an old water mill working with the waters of the Lison or even a Comtois bell tower. An inn-restaurant serves good typical Franche-Comté cuisine. You can also stock up on cheese at the Lison dairy.

From the top of its 828 meters, the Montmahoux is a first choice perch to admire the Monts du Jura. And in optimal conditions, expect to see Mont-Blanc looming over there, on the horizon.

There is so much to discover here: Source du Lison Cheese shop Tallanderie Climbing rocks and the best of all: “a l'ombre du chateau” A “Bed & Breakfast” that is absolutely extraordinary for me. Simply fantastic, indescribable!

Nice little place in the Jura in the valley of the Lison. The source of the Lison is easy to reach on the small D 477, not paved from the parking lot. Small hostels in town. Not a big tourist hype, luckily.
