A ship tunnel (1810) that can be walked through from the side as a shortcut for the Le Doubs river canal. On the other side of the canal there is a lock about 3-4 m high. There is a water curtain at both portals and the interior is beautifully and decoratively lit. Worth seeing.

With today's start in Dole, we have left the Burgundy region, which was independent until 2015, and are now also moving into the former Franche Comté region, which existed until 2015. In 2015, both regions were merged to form the new Bourgogne Franche Comté region. On this section, the Rhine-Rhone canal flows for large parts in the bed of the Doubs, which has its source in the Swiss Alps. Besançon is the capital of Franche-Comté, voted the "greenest city in France", and the city of art and history; Besançon has 184 buildings classified as Historic Monuments. Vauban's fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site (citadel, city walls and Fort Griffon). The Rhine-Rhone Canal is a watershed canal that overcomes a total height difference of around 280 meters, of which 170 meters are on the Saône valley side, which are overcome with 82 locks, and 110 meters on the Rhine side, which requires 40 locks.

It is also possible to walk through the tunnel.

The water channel in the tunnel is very impressive.

Chez Gervais is a historic establishment in the Loue valley. Its location by the river, in a green and bucolic setting, creates a unique atmosphere. Fly fishermen complete the picture when you are seated on the terrace. If you pass by, don't hesitate and come and sit at Edgar Faure's favorite table.

Failing to visit, since it is private, the Château de Cléron can be admired from the heights of Cléron, but also from its gardens. This medieval castle has been restored and offers observers a keep, machicolations, loopholes and stunners in excellent condition.

This is a dream place - and from the looks of it a great restaurant too. Unfortunately I didn't get a place anymore, it was very busy. But eating a few meters away from la Loue and in the sunshine would have been a dream.

This castle was built in 1320 by Humbert de Cléron, vassal of the Count of Burgundy, to protect the Loue ford on the great salt road of Franche-Comté. Modified and enlarged in the 15th and 18th centuries, the castle still retains its medieval defenses. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (from 01/07 to 31/08, garden only, interior cannot be visited). Ticket price - 3 euros.
