you can stay in Dinnet and start a hike from there through Muir of Dinnet, Loch Kinord, Burn o'vat, Campus o may and on to Ballater along Deeside. Highly recommended for bird watching, dragonflies, and a varied landscape - pine forests, lochs, heaths, pear bog and marsh, river side, and glacial geological features :)

Booking definitely recommended for food I was advised. Stopped in for a pint only though.

Be sure to visit Cambus O'May Cheese & Milk Hoose Café past Ballater.

Fairly big tourist town with plenty of cafes and large supermarket.

Big bike shop offering repairs and sales. Well worth a visit.

Tea rooms and adjacent to one of the two bike shops in Ballater.

Lovely dog friendly pub with in and outdoor seating. No food served outdoors after 1600. recommend booking for evening food.
