The present Apensen church celebrated its centenary in March 2010. It stands on the foundations of numerous older chapels and churches. The first one is believed to have been built here around the year 800. The first documented mention of a church dates back to 1329. With 3,700 inhabitants, Apensen is the largest town in the parish district, and our church is located there. The baroque hall church was built around 1700 from fieldstone and brick. The nave is pentagonal in the east. In the west there is a wooden bell tower, which was built in 1662 and is covered with an eight-sided, slate-covered, pointed helmet.
