Medieval small town, worth a visit.

This route follows the 'le chemin du Suc' route created by the association les crampons du Murgat de Carlat, with two small differences: the start is in the hamlet of Juzelles rather than Carlat, and the route makes a very slight shortcut avoiding to go down and back up from the village. It is a very pleasant route which includes a plateau part with very beautiful views of the Cantal mountains (Plumb du Cantal, Puy Griou, etc.), then descends halfway up the valley with a more bucolic atmosphere.

Fortified medieval village of Barrez and capital of Carladez. Note that there is a mountain bike link to Thérondels. Mountain bike rental in the village and many restaurant options.

Small village which is a good start for mountain bike trails, in particular the classic tour of the peaks of the Château de Valon, a must-see just a few kilometers away. Public toilets in the village, restaurant and small grocery store.

The Château Saint-Étienne dominates the town of Aurillac from its hill. The tower dates from Carolingian times. Few elements of the medieval castle remain, due to a fire in the early 19th century. Rebuilt at the end of the century, it now houses the Volcanoes Museum, a must visit if you are in the region! The castle's English gardens are perfect for a stroll.

The international street theater festival which takes place every year in the last weeks of August has made this beautiful town in Cantal famous. Aurillac is also a museum of art and archeology, a very contemporary museum of volcanoes and an ideal horse center for horse riding enthusiasts.
