At this point in your hike you'll be treated to spectacular, panoramic views of Mount Lafayette to your left, and Mount Lincoln on your right.

Washington is the most prominent mountain in the eastern U.S. and an absolutely incredible peak to bag. This is easily one of the best summits in New England. It is also the most dangerous if you come unprepared, especially in the winter. Washington creates its own rapidly changing weather system and is known for being the deadliest small mountain in the world. The second-fastest wind speed on earth was recorded here at over 230mph. That said, a quarter million people visit Washington every year, and if you come prepared and respect the mountain you have nothing to fear and are guaranteed to have an epic summit.

The Falling Waters Trail is a 2.6-mile round-trip hike to Little Haystack Mountain, known for its beautiful waterfalls. Starting from the Trailhead Parking Lot or Lafayette Campground, hikers first encounter Stairs Falls, followed by the 60-foot Swiftwater Falls. The highlight of this hike is the 80-foot Cloudland Falls, a fan-shaped waterfall visible from trail. The hike can continue to the Franconia Ridge Trail, but caution is advised as the terrain becomes more challenging and the trail becomes a bit more exposed.

Cloudland Falls, an 80-foot waterfall, is the third waterfall along the Falling Waters Trail. Hikers can enjoy stunning views of the falls from the trail. The Falling Waters Trail, which leads to Little Haystack Mountain, is a popular hike. Those wanting to visit Cloudland Falls don't need to complete the entire 5.6-mile trail to see the waterfall.

The Old Bridle path is one of the more famous trails in Franconia Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This steep, strenuous trail is the most popular route to the summit of Mount Lafayette, and also leads to the AMC Greenleaf Hut. It is also often completed as part of a large, but amazing loop that includes the Falling Waters Trail up to the ridge where you summit Little Haystack, Mount Lincoln, and Lafayette, before heading down the Old Bridle Path.

Dress warmly. Snow season begins July 1 and ends June 30. We were at 68 mph at the summit. Keeping your hat on is a good idea. Two days ago, when we were last up there, it was 73 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind was blowing lightly around 23 mph. Mt. Washington is the highest peak within 1,000 miles, making it an exposed location with what the US Weather Service calls the worst and most surprising weather in the world.
