Pen-y-Ghent is one of the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks, located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, northern England. It stands at 694 meters (2,277 feet), making it the lowest of the three peaks (the others being Ingleborough and Whernside), but it's often the most visually striking with its distinctive shape and dramatic, tiered appearance.

Hull Pot is an amazing collapsed cavern that is now just an open limestone scar measuring 91 metres (300 feet) long by 18 metres (60 feet) deep. In dry weather, like today unfortunately, Hull Pot Beck goes underground before it gets to the rim, but in wet weather, it gives way overground to form a stunning waterfall. A stunning place to spend some time!

A well surfaced trail leads you through a wooded gorge past Janet's Foss waterfall. The scenery is spectacular and the trail surfaced but with lots of limestone features to keep you on your toes. It's a good winter option when everything else is really boggy

Hull Pot, on the western side of Pen-y-Ghent, is a collapsed cavern, and an impressive hole measuring 91m (300ft) long by 18m (60ft) deep. In the late 18th century, in a guidebook published, it was called 'a Hulpit', and the author stated that it "would have appeared like the inside of an enormous old Gothic castle, the high ruinous walls of which were left standing after the roof was fallen in".

If you are feeling brave and you are good at climbing, you can go up the waterfall and follow a path upto the top of Gordale Scar, but it's not easy and the flow of the water can change daily depending on weather and rain etc so this can increase the difficulty and danger, and plus like myself you might get wet feet lol.

Gordale Scar is a stunning natural wonder which is not that hard to navigate even if you're not familiar with the area. To make your experience more enjoyable, make sure to plan your route and be prepared for the steep climb up to the top of the waterfall. Be sure to pack appropriate gear for the weather conditions, as the gorge can be slippery and wet. Wearing sturdy shoes with good grip, and bringing waterproof clothing can help ensure you have a comfortable and safe experience.

There are so many paths around the area it would be good to make a route out prior to setting off and that way you can make a better estimation of your finish time.

11월 13, 2022, The Crown Pub, Horton in Ribblesdale
A pretty little Yorkshire village that's a great base for runners. Pen-y-Ghent is right on the doorstep and it's also a popular place to start the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. And it's on the Pennine Way. Away from these classics there is good access to the moorland and plenty of other running to do. The village has a couple of traditional pubs, The Crown and the Golden Lion. There are plenty of B&Bs and a campsite.

The path junction on Horton Moor. Head uphill on the Pennine Way to the summit of Pen-y-Ghent, a tough but fun climb with great views. Head south down the trail to Horton in Ribblesdale. Or you can carry on north-east up the Pennine Journey trail onto Foxup Moor and a longer loop.

At 2,277 ft (694 m) Pen-y-ghent is the lowest of the Yorkshire three peaks but still an enjoyable running challenge in its own right. It’s scrambly from the south, which is a lot of fun. It's on the Pennine Way, so features in the classic races like the Spine Race On reaching the summit, if you're lucky enough to visit on a clear day you'll be treated to great views out across the Yorkshire Dales from the trig point.
