The practice common in France or Germany (and many other countries), for example, whereby gravesites are "purchased" for a limited period of time, say 20 years, and are then cleared and released after this period, is completely alien to Jewish thought. A note for male visitors: As a sign of respect for our "elder brothers in the faith" (a quote from Pope John Paul II), gentlemen are asked to wear a head covering when entering a Jewish cemetery – provided it is open to the public.
