On July 2, 1966, former Chancellor Konrad Adenauer broke ground. The monument with a memorial plaque for the statesmen Konrad Adenauer, Robert Schuman and Alcide de Gasperi was unveiled in May 1970. Helmut Bulle, Josef Besch and Paul Henri Spaak are other personalities who have been honored with a plaque. The Felsberg-Berus transmitter was a long-wave transmitter of the Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE), a subsidiary of the RTL Group in the municipality of Überherrn in the Saarlouis district in Saarland.
